Glen Lyons is a man who appreciates the important contribution non-profit agencies like Sierra Mental Wellness Group performs in their community. That’s why, when he learned that Sierra’s Tahoe City office was undergoing a “beautification re-boot” of cleaning and painting, he contributed a collection of nine paintings to help redecorate the office. Glen recognizes there are many ways to support the important work performed by nonprofit agencies which focus their work, frequently with limited resources, for the benefit of others.

Feeling in control of your life. Being in balance. Peace. However you might define it, mental wellness is a goal that all of us share and strive to attain every day. It is in our nature—often at the center of everything that we do—which is why I’m extremely proud to announce that is now part of our name.
After 40+ years of providing mental health services in Placer County, Sierra Family Services is officially now known as Sierra Mental Wellness Group. With offices in Roseville, Auburn, and Tahoe City and therapists based off-site in Truckee and Lincoln, Sierra Mental Wellness Group, or SWMG, is providing services to the entire family throughout the county. A name change was in order to reflect the metamorphosis of the agency over the past four decades and to truly reflect our future and our services.
As part of a capacity building grant by the Community Benefits Grants Program of Sutter Roseville Medical Center and Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, Sierra was awarded a one year contract with 3fold Communications, a marketing company in Sacramento. Experts in working with for profit and nonprofit groups, 3fold helps develop nonprofits in the areas of brand management, board development, fundraising, strategic planning, and much more.
Although our name has changed, Sierra’s mission stays the same: to provide the best possible mental wellness care in Placer County. We know that we play a vital role in our community’s outlook on health, improving our patients’ lives in the process.

On September 10, Sierra Mental Wellness Group (SMWG) participated in the 5thannual Kaiser Permanente KidsFest at Whitney Ranch Park. The event, which benefits SMWG, ran from 12-4 and featured over 40 vendors, activities, and demonstrations. The free event is a fun-filled day for children six and under. SMWG’s booth provided information on counseling and mental wellness for the entire family, and children were able to make “feelings magnets” and take home “feelings coloring books.”
For the second year in a row, SMWG was a contender at the Placer County Honey Festival. On September 17, the agency took 3rd place in the Cornbread baking contest and had a good showing in the Honey Bear Pinewood Derby. A true community event, attendees were able to enjoy the day by sampling honey produced in the region, visiting various vendors, and stopping by the Sierra Mental Wellness table for information about our services.
